Most insulation quotes start with a product and work backwards. We do it the other way. What is the assembly, how is the space used, where is the air actually moving, and what is already in there that might have to come out first. The material follows from those answers.
Attic insulation is what we are asked for most, and it is where most comfort complaints trace back to. Crawl space encapsulation is second, and it is the one where finding the water source first matters more than anything else. Insulation removal is often the step that makes either of those possible.
Metal buildings and pole barns are usually a condensation problem before they are a temperature problem. Commercial work is mostly a sequencing problem, planned around an operation that cannot stop. New construction is the simplest install and the easiest to get wrong on timing.
Open cell and closed cell are the real choice on most jobs. Open cell is lighter, expands further and suits conditioned interior assemblies. Closed cell is denser, resists moisture and adds rigidity, which is why it goes in crawl spaces, on rim joists and on steel. Specifying the wrong one is the expensive mistake.

Very often. A removal followed by an attic install is common, and a single house can call for open cell in one area and closed cell in another. Mixed scopes are normal and the written scope shows exactly which is where.
